Live television coverage of poker tournaments could be one of the worst media forms to reduce the standard of a 5 card stud player.
The reasoning for this is that new and moderate poker players get to see the cards that the players are opting to play, with a large number of professionals opting to play a number of hands that players shouldn't be choosing to play.
The reason that players in these televised tournaments decide to play cards that a normal player shouldn't even dream of is that they carry a reputation that they have created within the poker world, demanding respect from players who face off against them.
Because players get to see the professionals play these low ranked hands and beat their opponents out of the pot, amateur players become confident that they can follow suit and believe that they would be able to play the hand in the same 'As Seen on TV' way.
The true reality is that 99.9% of the players haven't got the respect nor the ability to be able to play the hands as they see the professionals do it and they end up losing a large amount of funding while they try to make their regular bets in order to scare their opponents out.
All that ends up happening is that the players get called and see their bankroll go from something to nothing in the space of a few hands.
5 card stud poker is a game that requires concentration and for a player to have the ability to select their hands carefully before entering into a pot.
Without these two main factors any stud poker player is nothing but a novice when it comes to their gaming style and their bankroll.
